I was thinking about the season when I was unemployed.  It was a very difficult time.  I hated it and didn’t understand why I had to experience such awful times.

Certainly, when we’re going through difficult times, we don’t always understand WHY it’s happening. You wonder when it will end or if it will ever end.  But looking back on that season I can see where God used it to humble me 😊, shape my thinking and redirect my goals.

Had I not gone through that experience I would probably be still trying to climb the corporate ladder.  I would still be chasing a bigger paycheck. I would still be on the wrong path for my life.

I’m not saying that climbing the corporate ladder is wrong.  What I am saying is that it was wrong for me.  That wasn’t the path God wanted me to take.

If that’s your path, go forth with God speed.  But it wasn’t for me.

That experience helped me to realize that the blessings I had wasn’t because of me.  But they were because God had made a way for me to have them.

That experience helped me to realize that I really wasn’t as smart and wonderful as I thought I was.  I was able to get contracts because God was making them available for me.

That experience helped me to realize that being in the corporate arena wasn’t really what I wanted.  I wanted a life where I felt fulfillment.  I wanted a life in which I was making a difference in the world.

That experience helped me to realize that I would never be financially secure working at a job.  So, I started my own business.

What am I saying to you?

If you’re in a difficult season now, know that WHEN (not if) you get to the other side of it, you will be a better person.  You will reap if you faint not.  That difficult time is making you stronger.  It’s purging of the things that are not pleasing to God and filling you with the things that are.

If you’ve gone through difficult seasons and you think it was for nothing, I encourage you go back and do inventory on the person you were before the season and the person you are now that you’ve come through the season.  What has changed about you?  What are the things that you used to think that you no longer think or vice versa?  What goal do you now have that you didn’t have before?

If you’ve gone through a difficult season and you feel like something has changed but not quite sure what, just keep watching and listening.  You will see a pattern of how your ideals and goals have changed.  You start to see how God has redirected you.  He won’t unfold everything all at once.  But little by little he will make you contemplate things in your heart.  You’ll find yourself changing your mind and your perspective.

EVERYTHING we go through is for a reason even the things that we’ve brought on ourselves.  NOTHING is ever wasted.  There is purpose for and in every part of our lives and all the difficult times.

I encourage you to find purpose in your trying times.  See the glass as half full instead of half empty.  Expect to see great things come out of your trials as difficult as they may be.

Be Shaped and Redirected – Be Blessed
